[2 Servings, Ready in 20 Minutes, Easy to Make]

Pork Belly Chashu Rice Bowl is a delectable dish that is both comforting and satisfying. Ideal for fresh slices from the freezer or even using up leftover pork belly, this dish is highly recommended as a hearty meal. The key to its deliciousness lies in the savory soy sauce mixture that infuses the pork belly with an irresistible sweetness and depth of flavor.

Ingredients:

  • Pork belly, 4 strips (our 1/4 Inch Cut Premium Pork Belly works well)
  • Cooked rice, 2 bowls
  • Green onions, 2
  • Onion, 1/2
  • Whole garlic, 4-5 cloves
  • Pepper, to taste

Sauce

  • Soy sauce, 6 spoons
  • Sugar, 2 spoons
  • Cooking sake, 3 spoons
  • Water, 200 ml
  • Oyster sauce, 1 tablespoon (Optional)

Instructions:

  1. Mix the sauce - optionally add 1 tablespoon of oyster sauce.
  2. Heat a pan and grill the pork belly strips with a sprinkle of pepper.
  3. Flip and grill the other side with more pepper until both sides are nicely browned.
  4. In the pan, add the sauce and sliced garlic, onion, and green onions.
  5. Bring the sauce mixture to a boil.
  6. Cut the grilled pork belly in half and add it to the sauce.
  7. Simmer until the sauce reduces and thickens, then cut the pork belly into bite-sized pieces.
  8. Serve the pork belly pieces over the cooked rice, topped with the reduced sauce.
  9. For an extra touch of flavor, add a soft-boiled egg or a fried egg yolk on top.

Notes:

  • The combination of tender pork belly and the rich soy sauce creates a deeply satisfying taste.
  • Adjust the sweetness and saltiness of the sauce according to your preference.
