Soy-Braised Potato Cubes is a simple and delicious dish that is particularly popular among children for its sweet and savory taste. It’s a perfect side dish that can be prepared quickly, in under 30 minutes, making it ideal for busy parents. This recipe uses everyday ingredients and has a comforting, home-cooked flavor that appeals to all ages. It's versatile enough to be a staple in your meal planning, especially on those days when you need something quick and satisfying.

  • Potatoes, 3
  • Onion, 1/2
  • Oyster Sauce, 1 tablespoon
  • Soy Sauce (Dark), 3 tablespoons
  • Sugar, 1 tablespoon
  • Oligosaccharide (올리고당 - can substitute with simple syrup or similar sweetener), 1 tablespoon
  • Canola Oil, 1-2 tablespoons
  • Minced Garlic, 1/2 tablespoon
  • Whole Sesame Seeds, a small amount

  1. Cut the potatoes into bite-sized pieces and rinse in water. Chop the onion into small pieces.
  2. In a pan, add oil and half a tablespoon of minced garlic to make garlic oil. Use low heat to prevent burning.
  3. Once the garlic aroma develops, add the potatoes and onion, and stir-fry them.
  4. Add 1 tablespoon of oyster sauce, 3 tablespoons of soy sauce, and 1 tablespoon of sugar, and continue stir-frying.
  5. Cover with a lid and cook on low heat. This method cooks the potatoes thoroughly without the need for additional water.
  6. When the potatoes are nearly done, add 1 tablespoon of oligosaccharide and cook a bit longer.
  7. Turn off the heat and sprinkle with whole sesame seeds.

Notes: Adjust the seasoning to suit your taste. This dish is a great way to introduce vegetables to kids, and the seasonings can be tweaked to match different palates.
